Welcome to Basecamp Lodge, formerly known as the Der Wedelin Inn! This historic lodge was opened in 1959 by Pat Murdoch, a dynamic ski instructor, adventurer, and local businessman. Pat's vision was to create a special place for visitors to enjoy the beauty of Mt. Shasta, and he did just that. Today, Basecamp Lodge is a beloved fixture in the town of Mt. Shasta, drawing visitors from all over the country who are looking for an adventurous and family-oriented lodging experience.
Today, Basecamp Lodge is a popular lodging spot in Mt. Shasta, renowned for its historic charm and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The property boasts individual cabin accommodations as well as the option to buy out the entire lodge for unforgettable retreats and weddings. In 2021, the property underwent full interior renovations to modernize and update the cabins while preserving the rich history of the cedar wood lodge. The result is a perfect blend of modern comfort and rustic charm that offers guests a truly unforgettable experience. The property was renamed Basecamp Lodge to be your mountain base for exploring Mt. Shasta.
The Der Wedelin Inn (translation: the Wiggle Inn, a play on a skiing term) was built on a dream and surplus wood from local timber mills. Pat and his wife Annie managed the inn as a destination for tourists, especially those interested in skiing at Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl, and in the process, created a rich, varied life for themselves and all those around them. They raised a blended family of seven children on skiing and sports, hard work, hard play, success by merit, character, and the outdoors. The inn quickly became a beloved destination for Ski Apres, drawing visitors from all over the country who were drawn to the natural beauty of the area, the excellent skiing, and the comfortable accommodations of the inn. In reflecting on his father’s legacy, Pat’s son said… "People told us that before he got to Mount Shasta, it was a logging town. After he got there, it was a resort town."
